GTA 5 DELAY MAY MEAN NEXT-GEN RELEASE.

As you may know, Rockstar announced today that Grand Theft Auto 5 has been delayed by an extra 4 months, to allow for 'further development'. 

This has left many to believe that GTA 5 will indeed be released on next-gen platforms. 

Adding a further 4 months on to the development of the game means it will probably be released either after the consoles have been launched, or just before they have been launched. 

Coincidence? 

'PLAYSTATION 2013' EVENT SET FOR FEBRUARY 20




We have been invited to "see the future". A PlayStation announcement is set to take place at 6 p.m. Eastern on Wednesday, February 20.

A post and video (posted below) on the official PlayStation Blog invites fans to "see the future" at an event set for February 20 at 6pm EST. A website has also been launched by Sony which includes the tagline "be the first to know". 

We have the slightest feeling that this event may mark the official announcement which we have previously reported on. Which would back up our calls on how the next-gen console may be announced before E3.

A similar event hosted by Sony back in 2011 saw Sony announce the PS Vita, so who knows what will happen with this one?

MICROSOFT 'TO AXE XNA'

The future of Xbox LIVE Indie Games is becoming clouded. Microsoft says DirectX 'is no longer evolving'.

Microsoft has given the clearest signal yet that it will phase out XNA, the development framework which had become popular among many indie game developers.

In an email reportedly sent to multiple game developers and MS employees, Microsoft confirmed that XNA would be "retired" from a program that promotes the company's own technologies.

However, many developers are still waiting on receiving this email. 

The email said that XNA Game Studio is "not in active development". 

In the long run, this would mean that the framework will be less and less relied on for developing Xbox games. But it is now speculated that Microsoft is preparing a replacement.

GTA 5 DELAYED TO SEPTEMBER - OFFICIAL RELEASE DATE ANNOUNCED.

Recently it was announced that Grand Theft Auto 5 will be launched on September 17, 2013. Instead of it's original Spring release date.

It has been delayed to 'allow additional development time'.

Rockstar Games founder Sam Houser said "We are very excited for people to learn more about the game in the coming months".

Rockstar Games parent company, Take-Two Interactive and its investors are probably more eager for GTA 5 to launch than gamers, since the game's release is expected to deliver $600 million in revenues.

GOOGLE RUMORED TO BE LAUNCHING PAID YOUTUBE CHANNELS SOON

Well, we didn't think the day would come. But rumors have arised which state that Google are beginning to work with a small number of popular YouTube video channel operators on a pilot program which could result in paid subscriptions as early as this spring.

According to reports, Google plans to team up with YouTube partners like Machinima, Maker Studios and Fullscreen to offer up paid subscription tiers, as well as bringing in new content brands. 

Google began offering YouTube feature videos which you could rent in 2010, but allowing channels to charge money to access their content could turn YouTube into a online alternative to a cable TV network, if enough people actually sign up for them.

MEDAL OF HONOR TAKEN 'OUT OF ROTATION'

EA recently announced that the Medal of Honor franchise will be taking a break, die to the game's poor performance since the launch of Medal of Honor: Warfighter. 

According to EA COO Peter Moore, the poor sales performance means that the publisher will not continue with the series. "The game was solid, but the focus on combat authenticity did not resonate with consumers" Moore said.

It is said that they are taking a break from the game, to think of new ideas for possible sequels. 

BATTLEFIELD 3 PREMIUM HITS NEARLY 3 MILLION SUBSCRIBERS

EA's Battlefield 3 Premium service has gained around 2.9 million subscribers so far.
This shows a growth of around 900,000 users since EA reported 2 million users during its financial results in October.

The Battlefield 3 Premium service generated over $108 million in sales through the third quarter, reported EA. 
EA also reported a trailing twelve month non-GAAP digital net revenue rise of 37% to $1.5 billion.

FIFA 13 SELLS 12 MILLION, BEATS FIFA 12 BY 23 PERCENT

EA recently announced that FIFA 13 sold more than 12 million copies during EA's third quarter of 2013.

EA says that this represents a 23 percent increase compared to FIFA 12 sales in the same period (October 1st - December 31st) last year.

Having launched on September 25 in US and Sept. 28 in UK, this figure will not include most of the 4.5 million copies sold in the first five of the game being on sale - it sold 1.23 million copies within its first 48 hours of being on the shelf in the UK.

FIFA 13's digital net revenue hit $100 million in the quarter, reported EA, which accounts for a 98 percent increase over FIFA 12 in the previous year.

BLACK OPS 2 REVOLUTION DLC NOW AVAILABLE ON XBOX LIVE.

It has now been confirmed that Black Ops 2's first DLC, Revolution, is now available to download on Xbox LIVE.

It costs 1200 Microsoft Points, and comes with 5 new maps, an all new Zombies game-mode, and for the first time in CoD history, a new weapon; The Peacekeeper SMG.

You can download the DLC from the dashboard if you do not have the Season pass.

If you are a season pass holder, you will need to go in to the Multiplayer store (not zombies). And it should be available there.

  • GEARS OF WAR: JUDGMENT MP DEMO SET FOR XBOX LIVE


    A Gears of War: Judgment multiplayer demo is set for release on the game's US release date, March 19.

    The demo includes a new multiplayer mode, OverRun; an objective based game mode featuring five player teams playing as COG soldiers and Locusts, each playing as various different character classes.

    In North America, members of GameStop's PowerUp Rewards program who pre order the game will get early access to the demo on March 15.

    Any multiplayer XP you gain from the demo will carry over to the final game for players who buy and play Judgement within it's first week of release.

    The release date for Gears of War: Judgment will be March 19, 2013 in the US, and March 22 in the UK.

    MAJOR BLACK OPS 2 PATCH NOW LIVE ON XBOX 360

    Treyarch has just released a massive patch for Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 on Xbox which fixes a number of bugs and re-balances several guns.
    Once the 32MB patch is installed, all SMGs equipped with a silencer will suffer further reduced range, plus several assault rifles have had their recoil and damage values altered. There are plenty of other changes which you can check out in the full patch notes below:
    New Features & New Feature Improvements:


    • Added support for Live Streaming in all Public Match playlists.

    • Added League Best from Season 1 to Player Card.

    • If you played in multiple series and/or multiple teams then your highest division and rank will be displayed.  The League Best will span all seasons.  If you finish with a higher division rank in Season 2 then your new League Best will be displayed after Season 2.

    • Added a Cumulative Daily Pool instead of a Weekly Pool in League Play. 200 Rank Points are added to a player’s pool every day. Points that are not used are rolled into the next day.

    • Added 2 new pages to the Combat Record (the Combat Summary and Medals.)

    • Implemented sorting of Medals in the After Action Report.

    • Lowered HUD threshold for the “low health” overlay to increase player’s awareness of low health.

    • Added a “Go to Top” button for the League Leaderboard.


    Issues Addressed:


    • Matchmaking modified to never return games outside of player’s own continent, unless the Connection Type in Search Preferences is set to “Any”.

    • Addressed an issue where the UAV would not trigger if called in while aiming down sight.

    • Addressed an issue where the Master Demolition challenge did not unlock when the requirements were complete.

    • Addressed issue with the headshot sound not playing in final Killcams and Theater Demos.

    • Fixed an issue in League Play where “Career Wins” for a Series were not displayed during placement in the Lobby Career Overview.

    • Removed the ability to make dual wield attachment combos in Elite Create a Class and addressed an issue where these classes were appearing as missing in game.

    • Stocks on SMGs no longer allow a player to move faster while ADS than when moving normally.

    • Shotgun crosshairs will no longer turn red if an enemy is out of the shotgun’s maximum damage range.

    • Fixed an issue where bullets would not fire straight immediately after aiming down the sight while moving at the same time.

    • Improved turret tracking to eliminate false positives when checking line of sight.

    • Turrets now have smoother tracking when targeting players.

    • Improved bot pathing on multiple maps.

    • Current League Info is now getting updated properly in the Player Identity.

    • Manual sorting on League Teams removed as the results are now returned correctly.

    • Improved the Scoreboard to make friend Playercard information more accessible.

    • Addressed multiple UI issues.

    • Players can no longer earn credit towards a Prestige Equipment challenge through “friendly” flashbangs, concussions, and shock charges.

    • Fixed Select Fire weapons reverting back to their default fire method when using certain Scorestreaks and not calling them in.

    • Addressed an exploit where the game allowed access to the Custom Games Settings while believing the game was Public Matchmaking, allowing XP.

    • Fixed UI errors when linking Live Stream.

    • Score and points are no longer awarded if a player destroys their own turret in Hardcore FFA.

    • Improved image alignment when Stereoscopic 3D is enabled.

    • Addressed an issue where players were able to plant numerous Assault Shields.

    • Addressed an issue where the Stealth Helicopter was able to drop below the map in Drone.

    • Players are no longer able to get infinite Black Hats by immediately using another Black Hat.

    • Addressed an issue where it was possible for a player to equip two Assault Shields at the same time.

    • Players Spectating a One in the Chamber game no longer earn Survivor Bonus Points.

    • A player can no longer earn Medals for multi-kills if they continue to kill quickly after dying and re-spawning.

    HALO 4 GETTING GRIFBALL PLAYLIST

    A playlist entirely devoted to Grifball will be added to the mixture of game types in Halo 4's multiplayer. 343 Industries recently announced that “several different Grifball experiences” will be added in to the playlists.

    “We have worked closely with the Grifball Hub to create several different Grifball experiences in this new matchmaking playlist” 

    The Engineer and Stalker Specializations will also be made available in this update, their descriptions are below.

    New Specializations:
    Engineer - "Spartan optimization for the subversion, repair and reconstitution of a wide range of technology, including Covenant and Forerunner complex networks. The Drop Recon Armor Mod allows users to predict the location and time of an Ordnance Drop through an external suborbital monitoring system."

    Stalker - "Spartan optimization for target shadowing missions which require tactical invisibility despite operating at an extremely close range to the target itself. The Nemesis armor mod allows users to target and track down previous attacking enemies, highlighting them on the armor’s passive sensors."

    TERRARIA COMING TO CONSOLES IN FEBRUARY - NEW TRAILER RELEASED.

    A new trailer from 505 Games reveals the release date for Terraria on consoles. The video shows off some of the brand-new content coming to the console versions.

    The console port of Terraria will include new controls, a world map, new tutorials, armor, weapons, enemies, pets, music, and a new final boss. The game will also include local, split-screen multiplayer for up to four people, and eight-player online multiplayer.

    PLUMMITING XBOX SALES PUSH MICROSOFT REVENUES DOWN

    Microsoft's Entertainment and Devices division generated $3.8 billion in revenue in the last three months of 2012, as 5.9 million Xbox 360 consoles were shipped, which is down from 8.2 million during the same time last year.

    The company also made $1.1 billion less than it did last year. According to Microsoft, this was "due mainly to lower volumes of consoles sold and lower video game revenue."

    All-in-all, the Entertainment and Devices Division, saw profits up and revenues down. This was due to a reduction in marketing costs, and the latter was a because of dwindling demand for Xbox 360 consoles. 

    THQ MEMO ASKS EMPLOYEES TO PACK UP TODAY

    Employees of THQ's corporate HQ and Vigil studio will stop working for the bankrupt publisher today. In a memo obtained by sources, employees received a "frequently asked questions" memo about the end of their employment.

    The memo states that employees should remove all of their personal items by the end of the day, as access to the building will no longer be available. Employees will be paid through today, have health insurance until January 31, with severance and leftover vacation pay yet to be announced. All THQ stock is now worthless.

    ASSASSIN'S CREED 3 - TYRANNY OF KING WASHINGTON DLC DATED.

    Ubisoft has announced a release date for episode 1 of Assassin's Creed 3 DLC; the Tyranny of King Washington.

    The DLC is the first episode of a three part story which will "let players experience an alternate history of the American Revolution".

    The first episode will be priced at 800 MSP (£6.85), it will be available on Xbox and PC on February 19 and PS3 on February 20. The DLC will be launched on the Wii U at an unknown date

    "In the first episode of the Tyranny of King Washington series, the protagonist, Ratonhnhaké:ton, wakes up from a dream to find that, despite his efforts to deliver justice in the newly founded United States of America, a new king has been crowned - George Washington."

    The DLC can also be picked up if you have the Assassin's Creed 3 season pass.


    RED/BLUE PS3S SET FOR UK RELEASE

    It has been revealed that two new colored versions of the super slim PS3 will be released across the UK from February 15.

    The new consoles have 500GB of storage with two controllers each in matching colors. As you may already know from one of our previous articles, while PS3s are not on sale in Canada and North America. 

    "This year, PlayStation 3 continues to grow from strength to strength with a huge line up of exclusive AAA titles and brand new franchises including The Last of Us, Beyond and Puppeteer"

    HALO 4: SPARTAN OPS EPISODE 7 TRAILER

    A trailer has been released for next week's Halo 4 DLC, Spartan Ops episode 7.

    Season one of the Spartan Ops DLC will include 10 episodes, and 50 missions.

    Episode seven will be live on Monday January 28, also with a Halo 4 multiplayer update which will add a Grifball playlist and unlock two new Specializations; Engineer and Stalker.

    GOOGLE TELLS POLICE TO GET WARRANTS FOR EMAILS

              On Wednesday, Google announced that more than two thirds of user data Google forwards to government agencies across the US is handed over without a probable cause warrant.

    Google spokesman, Chris Gaither, told sources that they demand government agencies to get a probable cause warrant for content on its email and other platforms. Despite the Electronic Communications Privacy Act (ECPA) which allows the Government to search through customer data without a warrant if it is on Google's servers for more than 180 days.

    "In order to compel us to produce content in Gmail we require an ECPA search warrant" Noted the Google Spokesman. "If they come for registration information, that's one thing, but if they ask for content of e-mail, that's another thing."

    While not a lot of tech companies actually announce how many government requests they get, Google is one of the few email providers that is actually challenging law enforcement agencies to produce said warrants to access a user's email.

    Google should be able to take some comfort in the fact that in 2010, the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that the Fourth Amendment protecting unreasonable searches and seizures also protects email, even if it is over 180 days old, despite what ECPA says.

    THE LAST OF US DEMO ANNOUNCED.

    With the upcoming release of Naughty Dog's highly anticipated game, The Last of Us, an announcement was made by Sony, who said a demo will be available to those who purchase God of War: Ascension.

    The Demo will not actually be available when God of War: Ascension has been launched, however, there will be an entry in to the game's main menu, which will tell users how they can access the demo when it becomes available. 

    No more information was shared about the Demo, but Sony did note that Naughty Dog will eventually put details up online, on the PlayStation Blog. 

    God of War: Ascension has a release date of March 12 in North America, and March 13 in Europe, ahead of the worldwide May 7 release date for The Last of Us.

    RUMOR: PS4 SPECS, NEW CONTROLLER AND ACCOUNT SYSTEM LEAKED

    The specs of PlayStation 4 developer kits from January 2013 have reportedly been revealed by official Sony documentation, which were then leaked and put up online. 

    The information, which was apparently provided by the same person who attempted to sell a pair of next gen Xbox development kits on eBay last year, reveals plans for a new controller and a new approach to user accounts.

    The PS4 Dev Kit specs:

    Video Memory: 2.2 GB
    CPU: 4x Dual-Core AMD64 "Bulldozer" (8x cores)
    GPU: AMD R10xx
    Drive: Blu-Ray
    HDD: 160GB

    Ports: 4x USB 3.0, 2x Ethernet

    Sony is working on a new controller for the PS4, although some developers are said to be working with existing DualShock 3 pads, as well as PS Move.

    The new controller is thought to include the four traditional face buttons, two analogue sticks, shoulder triggers of older PlayStation pads, as well as vibration and "improved" motion-sensing. But it's also reported to feature a touch pad, like the one found on the back of the Vita, capable of recognizing two-point multi-touch.

    The controller itself can apparently be "clicked" to make an additional input button, and also features a new "Share" button. While no one knows the purpose of this button, it is believed to be linked to a new account system.

    According to sources, the PS4 will support "multi-user simultaneous logins", which, by the sound of it, will allow multiple users to be signed into accounts at the same time on a single console, which means they could all unlock Trophies while playing co-op games.

    CRYSIS 3 ACHIEVEMENTS APPEAR ONLINE.

    Crysis 3's Xbox 360 Achievements have appeared online, revealing what you'll need to complete to increase your Gamerscore.

    The achievements appeared online yesterday, ahead of the Crysis 3 release date of February 19 in the US and February 22 in Europe.

    WWE GAME LICENSE ACQUIRED BY TAKE TWO

    The era of THQ wrestling games is over. Reports say that THQ's license to make WWE games has been bought by Take Two entertainment, parent company of 2K. At this time, it is unclear as to the amount which Take Two purchased the license for. All negotiations appear to have taken place outside of THQ's formal auction process. 

    Most of THQ's assets are being sold on to different companies and publishers, which are now pending court approval.
