According to reports, the PlayStation 4 may be capable of playing PS3 games via. the cloud streaming service, Gaikai.
Sony will the Gaikai cloud gaming service to bring PS3 games to the next-generation console, stated in Wall Street Journal report.
If this is true, it would bring a solution to the issue of backwards compatibility on the PS4.
Sony acquired the cloud-based gaming service of Gaikai for around about $380 million in July 2012.
Sony hasn't said much on their plans for the Gaikai, other than saying that while it "will be focused on Sony's game machines", it will also be "expanding the technology to other Sony products is absolutely within the frame".
Sony is supposed to be unveiling the new Playstation next week at a New York City event. They explain the history around the PlayStation 1 time period in the video below.
Multiple pictures have been leaked out about the controller and its functions. It is said that the new controller will have a PS Vita-like touch pad on the top of it. There has been a high volume of profile leaks this week, trying to find out more about the console. There have also been recent news about a prevention measure of used games on the PS4. According to Kotaku, PS4 will support "multi-user simultaneous logins". This means we can play CO OP and unlock trophies online and offline at the same time. Many people complained they couldn't do this on the PS3.
The Wii U has been plummeting in the Market the past couple weeks. It has not been selling as it was thought to be. It had pretty good start, but people suddenly stopped buying the Nintendo system. At the end of March, the estimated consoles to be sold has dropped from 5.5 million to 4 million for the Wii U. This number may drop even more as we near the end of February.
Many people are expecting a price cut for the Wii U, but they will not be cutting it anytime soon. Many are demanding the price to go down, or they will not buy the system. Nintendo is not worrying about sales right now, the PS3 did the same thing around this time of the year when released. The sales suddenly increased on the PS3 within the next month.
EA has just announced the milestone of downloads that they have had for the demo of the new Crysis 3 set to come out February 23rd of this year. Right now, EA is worried about turning three million downloads, into three million sold copies.
In 2011, Crysis 2 was one of the most pirated games of the year. This could make EA loose lots of money if it happens again. Preorders have been looking promising for the game though. There has been a 40% increase of preorders this year on the game than the previous one. EA is trying to make sure the beta runs as smooth as possible so the numbers don't go down.
Recently today, another picture was added of the rumored PS4 controller. A few days ago the same controller was also posted on a website. In this picture, you can clearly see a 3.5mm audio jack on the controller. Sources from IGN and other highly trusted sites confirm that the two pictures that have been posted are real. The Analog sticks are shaped different from the regular PS3 controller we have now. It might have some modified features to it, that we have yet to know about. One of the new features you can also see is the blue light at the top of the picture.
Currently as of now, the controller has not yet been confirmed by Sony themselves. Some websites believe that it may just be another prototype they have been testing out. We should hear more from Sony as we get closer to the new arrival of the PS4.
According to sources, Apple may already be making a "smart watch". This comes after the New York Times and Wall Street Journal both reported that Apple was planning on making a "smart watch" which is more than likely called the "iWatch".
It was revealed to sources that over 100 people may be working on the watch, which "includes managers, members of the marketing group, and software and hardware engineers who previously worked on the iPhone and iPad." Another source suggested that the watch is now "beyond the experimentation phase", hinting at a 2013 release.
Apple's senior director of engineering, James Foster, is said to be working on the project. Sources say that the Apple Watch will "perform some of the computing tasks now handled by the iPhone and iPad." Tim Cook, Apple's CEO, currently sits on the board of Nike and is apparently interested in wearable items, especially ones that can be used for fitness and training.
An executive for Electronic Arts has recently claimed that we should not expect Xbox 360 games to run on the next-gen Xbox, nor should owners of the next Playstation expect to play PS3 games on the PS4.
Sources report that EA chief financial officer, Blake Jorgensen, said "An important thing to remember is that next-gen consoles will most likely not be backwards compatible… And if you play multiplayer on a game, you'll most likely not be able to play with someone on a different generation."
